Travelstart introduces flexible payment options for Black Friday

Posted on 27 November 2024
South Africa’s growing adoption of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services is revolutionizing consumer spending, offering greater financial flexibility and an accessible alternative to traditional credit. With unpredictable economic conditions, BNPL solutions are becoming increasingly relevant, reshaping the future of consumer finance in the country.

Payflex, one of South Africa’s leading BNPL providers, allows customers to split their payments into interest-free instalments. Options include four equal payments over six weeks or three instalments aligned with payday schedules. For instance, a flight from Johannesburg to Durban could cost as little as R195 per instalment, with no additional interest charges.

Just in time for Black Friday, Travelstart has introduced a BNPL feature powered by Payflex, enabling customers to spread the cost of their holiday bookings. Running from November 27 to December 2, Travelstart’s Black Friday sale offers discounts on various flights, now paired with the flexibility of interest-free payments.

‘Book Now, Pay Later options have transformed payment methods in various industries, and travel should be no exception,’ said Mikha’il Ernest, Chief Commercial Officer of Travelstart. “We’re excited to offer travellers this financial flexibility, allowing them to book their trips without the burden of upfront costs. This added flexibility addresses a significant need for customers who may find immediate payment requirements a barrier.”

The rise of BNPL is largely driven by younger consumers, particularly Gen Z and Millennials, who favour alternatives to traditional credit. This trend supports financial inclusivity in a country where access to credit remains limited for many.

Despite rising inflation and economic pressures, consumer spending in South Africa remains resilient. BNPL is crucial in enabling consumers to manage their finances effectively during tough times.

Travelstart’s partnership with Payflex reflects its commitment to affordability and convenience for South African travellers. The BNPL feature is available for all flights booked on Travelstart, allowing customers to plan holidays with manageable payment options.

‘At Travelstart, we continually look to enhance our customer journey. A key part of that journey is payment flexibility, and as payments evolve, we want to stay agile and adaptable to provide customers with the best possible options and alternatives,’ Ernest added.
